Before servicing the rocker arm assembly inside the vehicle with
Camshafts, first take off the negative
Battery Cable and uncover the cylinder head and remove the spark plugs. Twist the engine clockwise until the camshaft lobe on the follower being removed is at its base, with the
Piston not over 6.3 mm (0.25 inch) from TDC. If you intend to use the cam followers again, clearly mark the positions of each assembly. Pushing down gently on the valve assembly with Special Tools 8215-A and 8436, carefully remove one rocker arm and follow the same procedure for each rocker arm. Check the rocker arms to see if there are any issues and replace them as you find it necessary. When installing, first rub engine oil onto the rocker arm and use Tools 8215-A and 8436 to slowly press down the valve assembly and set the rocker arm on the hydraulic lifter and valve stem for every rocker arm. After that, slide the spark plugs back in, put the cylinder head cover in its place and connect the negative battery cable.
