Chrysler Spindle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Rear Spindle on Chrysler PT Cruiser?
    A:
When repairing or servicing any rear disc brake vehicle, begin with a NEW seal (5) on the spindle (6). Push in the spindle (6) using the seal from the rear side into the disc brake adapter (3) and put both pieces on the end of the axle. Clean the areas on the bolts where the disc brake adapter and spindle are mounted to the axle, use Mopar(R) Stud & Bearing Mount Adhesive or change them for new bolts. Place four bolts (7) through the adapter and the spindle, lining them up with the axle's holes. Turn them tight to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). For automobiles with antilock brakes, put the wheel speed sensor head into the disc brake adapter and use a wrench to secure the mounting screw to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Fit the cable routing brackets to their mounts on the trailing arm (2) and attach the brackets by fastening two bolts (3), checking that the tightness is 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Join the hub and bearing (2) to the spindle (6) and fit a new hub nut (11) on tight, to a torque of 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.). Then, put in the hub and dust cap (10), then add the brake rotor (8) and caliper (1) and remember to tighten the caliper guide pin bolts (4) to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.). Add the tire and wheel assembly onto the car, screwing on the wheel mounting nuts to a tightness of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) followed by lowering the vehicle. Pump the brake pedal a few times after hitting the ignition to ensure a sure brake pedal before you move.
