How to Service and Repair Front Disc Brake Pads on Chrysler Voyager?

The first step to working on the front disc brake shoes is to raise the car and pull off both front wheels and tires. Put the car on the side you're working with, remove the clip from the caliper and adapter on the outboard side and then remove the two bolt pins from the caliper. Make sure the caliper doesn't fall by tying it to a support before proceeding. Take out the outboard brake shoe from the caliper adapter and pull the inboard brake shoe toward you until the clip is no longer attached to the caliper piston. Do the same work on the other arm. When working on disc/drum brakes, raise the car, change the front tire and wheel and take out the two brake caliper guide pin bolts so the entire caliper can be moved out of the way, without putting stress on the brake hose. Take out the brake shoes from the caliper adapter. Do not use sanders or grinders when cleaning brake shoes unless they are sealed for dust control and avoid blowing compressed air or dry brushing; instead, spray water on surfaces and wipe clean, placing soiled cloths in a labeled container that will not allow dust to escape. Check the brake shoes for any unevenness and check them for excessive damage, getting the thinnest thickness; fittings are due for replacement when the front brake shoes are 7.95 mm (5/16 inch) and the rear shoes are 7.0 mm (9/32 inch). Should replacement be required, put the new inboard brake shoes inside the bore, lubricate the plastic on the mounting abutments with Mopar Dielectric grease and then slide in the new outboard brake shoe. Lift the brake caliper so it rests on the rotor and the adapter, insert and bolt the guide pin bolts tightly at 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.) and then cap them off. Set the new caliper spring on the outside of the mounting, do the same on the other side, then fix the wheel and tire back in place, turning the holding nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) torque. Go down that mountain, push the brake pedal a few times, check the brake fluid and then drive it to check that the brakes are working properly. With disc/drum brakes, slide the shoes into the adapter anti-rattle clips, draw back the caliper piston, set the caliper on the shoes, tighten the guide pin bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.), mount the wheels and tighten to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), lower the vehicle, press the brake pedal, check fluid level and have a road test.
