Begin by removing the negative battery cable and then taking off the cap on the power steering fluid reservoir. Siphon pumps are useful for sucking as much fluid from the reservoir as you can. Place the vehicle on jack stands or a frame contact hoist and then disconnect the oxygen sensor wiring harness at the back by removing the rear engine mount bracket. First, take out the four bolts and flag nuts holding the
Catalytic Converter, then release all of the isolators/hangers from the exhaust system and last, move the whole system rearward and unhook it under the crossmember. After that, take out the power steering fluid supply hose and drain any extra fluid, then shift the heat sleeve on the power steering return hose to reach the connection at the pump and remove it, letting the last bit of fluid flow out. Disconnect the power steering fluid pressure line, drain out the extra fluid and then take off the accessory drive splash shield. Turn the adjuster nut at the back of the pump in the opposite direction and take out the front adjuster nut and the threaded pivot bolt. Let go of the drive belt, then together loosen the power steering pump and front bracket by squeezing through the exhaust tunnel. Taking out the three bolts will separate the power steering pump from the front bracket. If you must, take out the pump pulley as shown in Pump - Disassembly. To install, first set the power steering pump on its cast mounting bracket, connect the nut and bolt, but do not tighten the connection completely. Tighten the rear nut to keep the drive belt in place and make sure it is well fit on the pulley. Tighten both the adjustment slot bolts and the pivot bolt up to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and then replace the accessory drive splash shield. Inspect the O-ring for any damage before your attach the power steering fluid pressure hose and replace it if it's damaged. Slip the power steering fluid hose onto the pump fitting and make sure it is tightened to 31 Nm (275 in. lbs.). After that, connect the low-pressure hose to the return side and the high-pressure hose to the supply side. Ensure they are far away from the drive belts and all clamps are correctly replaced. Lay the heat sleeve over the rubber part of the return hose and tie it down securely. Put back the exhaust system and attach the isolators/hangers and the catalytic converter with the four bolts and flag nuts. Connect the oxygen sensor wiring to the vehicle, raise it once more and connect the negative battery cable. After that, carry out the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation procedure to add and remove fluid from the power steering, then inspect for leaks.
