During installation, the seal should have its lip folded gently into the engine, not curved out towards the
Crankshaft. Should there be a mark or scratch on the edge of the crankshaft, use 400 grit sandpaper to correct the area before installing the seal. As the rear crankshaft seal and retainer attach as one unit, do not take out the seal protector until after you have put it in place, so as not to damage the seal lip. Coat the crankshaft sealing surface with engine oil, insert the seal, fastener cover and seal protector, then push everything into position and secure at the rear with hand tight fasteners. Oil at sealing joints can leak. Make sure to attach Special Tool 8225 to the pan rail with the fasteners, setting the notch on the tool away from the seal retainer, to stop it. When you're holding the seal retainer securely against Special Tools 8225, use a torque wrench to tighten the seal retainer screws to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), then remove the tool. Ensure the seal flange is lined up with the block
Oil Pan, put the oil pan in place and fasten the 6mm bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) and the 8mm bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). After that, fit the flex plate and the transmission.
