Before installing the parking brake shoes, look at the springs, adjuster, lever and aluminum shoe anchor pin to see if they show signs of wear or damage. If any are damaged, replace them first. Initially, screw in the lower brake shoe hold-down pin (7) through the hole in the rear side of support (2), then slot the lower brake shoe (6) over the support (2) and secure it with the hold-down clip (7). After that, link the shoe actuator lever (1) to the free end of the
Parking Brake Cable (2) so that the word "UP" points outside. Attach the coil return spring (4) into the lower shoe (6) and then move the upper shoe (6) against the support plate and onto the actuator lever. After installing the upper brake shoe hold-down pin (7) by pushing it through the rear of the support and upper shoe, apply the upper brake shoe hold-down clip (7). Position the return spring (4) on the upper shoe (6) and place the shoe adjuster (8) so the part showing the star wheel is nearest the top. Position and insert the parking brake shoe adjuster spring (3) and then use Brake Shoe Gauge, C-3919 or another suitable tool to measure the inside diameter of the drum part of the rotor. Place the gauge over the parking brake shoes where they are widest, twist the adjuster star wheel to reduce the shoes until the linings rest on the gauge jaws for a first adjustment. Once complete, set up the wheel speed sensor nearby where the hub meets the bearing. Install both, along with all essential parts and lower the vehicle before doing the final adjustments to the parking brake shoes.
