Before connecting the A/C accumulator, set the refrigerant oil at the required level, since inappropriate oil can damage the A/C compressor. Should the A/C compressor fail internally, the accumulator should be changed in order to shield the new compressor from damage. For many replacements, use the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart; for replacement of the accumulator only, add 30 mL (1 fl oz) of the correct oil. Always replace the O-rings and gaskets around the refrigerant lines to keep leaks from occurring. After moving the accumulator into the engine compartment, tear off any tape or plugs on its fittings and the
A/C Condenser, apply some clean refrigerant oil to a new dual-plane seal and attach the seal to the accumulator fitting. Attach the accumulator to the last side of the A/C condenser, fasten it there with bolt 4 held tight to the recommended 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) and add the accumulator bracket 2 with screw 1 tightened to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Refasten the front lip, link the negative battery terminal to the battery, vacuum the refrigerant system and, if installing an accumulator, include 30 milliliters (about one American fluid ounce) of the recommended oil into the A/C compressor. The next step is to fill the air conditioning system with refrigerant.
