It is necessary to disarm the
Air Bag system before handling the steering column, so the bags do not go off by chance. Put the front wheels facing forward and take out the negative cable from the battery. Unplug the electrical connector to the air bag after taking it out. To remove the
Steering Wheel safely, mount CJ98-1 or an appropriate puller to the wheel's surface and not the
Clock Spring. After that, take off the steering column opening latch, the tilt lever, the rustic frame below the shrouds and the shroud itself. Take out the clock spring and cut the wiring to the column. First, separate the shift cable from the actuator, free it from its bracket and remove the SKIM module to pull out the electrical connector. Take out the upper steering shaft coupler bolt and part the shaft from the coupler. Next, take out the
Brake Light Switch, throw it away and get rid of the four steering column mounting bolts before you pull the assembly out of the vehicle.
