How to Maintain and Fix a Fan Blade on Dodge Dakota?

Serve and repair the fan blade by cleaning it carefully with mild soap and water. Please don't bend or straighten the fan blades unless they meet the design standards. Should the fan blade assembly be changed after mechanical damage, carefully check the water pump and viscous fan drive for damage caused by shaking. Take out the assembly by undoing the four bolts that hold it onto the drive unit. Set the fan down with the leading edge pointing towards the surface. If the other blade is less than 2.0 mm (0.090 inch) from the surface, replace the fan. Check that the space between the rocking blades never passes 2.0 mm (0.090 inch) and try each blade out in the device. Also, look at the fan assembly for any cracks, bends, loose rivets or broken welds and change the fan if you find any damage.

How to Maintain and Fix a Fan Blade on Dodge Ram 1500?

The first thing to do is take out the negative battery cable and pull out the top throttle cable before servicing or repairing the fan blade. Only for the 8.0L V10, do not unsnap the coolant reserve or overflow tank from the fan shroud. To remove the thermal viscous fan drive/fan blade assembly, turn the mounting nut counterclockwise, using a Snap-On 36 Mm Fan Wrench, a Special Tool 6958 Spanner Wrench and Adapter Pins 8346 to secure the pulley in place. Do not take out the viscous fan drive or remove bolts from the fan blade right now. Remove the fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly by taking the four fan shroud-to-radiator mounting bolts. Suggest that the viscous fan drive is not kept flat on its side to protect the lubricant from being contaminated by silicone fluid. Do not take out the water pump pulley-to-water pump bolts; leave the spring tension in place. Loosen the bolts on the fan, remembering that you may find the word Reverse printed on the viscous fan drive or the fan in a vehicle with a serpentine drive belt. Dust away any dirt from the fan's blades with your hands, followed by a wash in plain water and mild soap. If the fan assembly is changed because of mechanical damage, check both the water pump and the viscous fan drive for signs of being affected by the excessive vibration. After removing the fan blade assembly from the viscous fan drive unit, lay it flat with its leading edge down. When the gap between the blades and the surface is larger than 2.0 mm (0.090 Inch) or when the assembly rocks more than 2.0 mm (0.090 Inch), the fan needs to be changed. Inspect the blades for cracks, bends, loose rivets or damage to welds. If anything is found, change the fan out. During installation, fasten the fan blade assembly to the viscous fan drive, each bolt tightened to 23 Nm (17 Ft. lbs.) torque. Incorporate the entire assembly formed by the fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive into the vehicle and then fit the shroud. Place the fan blade/viscous fan drive on the water pump shaft, put back the fluid reserve/tank for every engine aside from the 8.0L V10 and connect the throttle cable. To finish, connect the battery's negative cable. After putting in the viscous fan drive, run the engine at about 2000 rpm for around two minutes to allow the fluid in the drive to spread evenly.
