Before servicing the front parking brake cable, raise and support the vehicle and always follow the safety precautions. Drop the front parking brake cable at the point it connects to the right rear cable, then pull out the front cable on the equalizer. After that, take out the crossmember bracket screw, plus the screw and routing clip nuts under the body that hold the cable in place. Set the vehicle low to the ground and remove the driver door opening sill scuff plate and the cowl side trim. Lift up the carpet to get to the front cable, then cut off the strand on the front parking brake cable at the point it connects to the lever. With a 13 mm 12-point box wrench on the cable retainer of the lever bracket, depress the retainer's fingers to pull the cable from the bracket. Pull the cable grommet out of the floor pan, then feed the cable up through the floor. Spread the parking brake cable down into the slot under the floor after placing the grommet outside the car. After that, guide the cable end up through the lever bracket and push the retainer into the bracket to secure it. Take the front parking brake cable back to its connector on the lever, lay the carpet back and set in place the retaining clip. Attach the door opening sill scuff plate and cowl side trim, then get the vehicle up so that you can work on lower panels. Place the screw through the rear sheet metal with a clip nut, fasten the cable to the underside of the body, take the cable over the
Rear Crossmember and then hook it through the equalizer near the rear differential. Insert the front parking brake cable at the connector into the rear parking brake cable, add the screw through the cable routing bracket onto the rear crossmember, then begin to lower the vehicle until the wheels are just above the floor. Hold down the parking brake, release it, then push it back down to the activated position. Be sure the rear wheels are not moving as you begin to lower the vehicle.
