The Camshaft Seal in Dodge Neon vehicles play an important part of sealing off the compartment that contains the camshaft compelling dirt, oil and other unwanted materials from penetrating through the area where the camshaft comes out of the cylinder head. This seal is the one that helps in supplying adequate lubrication of the camshaft, thus letting the engine run efficiently without exhibiting rough performances. It is important to understand that several types and or styles of Camshaft Seal may be incorporated in Dodge Neon models although types or styles are not specified. The primary function remains consistent across these types: to protect the inner parts of the engine from corrosive materials while at the same time maintaining the lubrication aspect of the engine. In general, the Camshaft Seal plays a crucial role as far as the durability and efficiency of the Dodge Neon engine is concerned.

Dodge Neon Camshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Camshaft Seal on Dodge Neon?
    A:
Begin by detaching and insulating the Battery Cable and then remove the cover for the front Timing Belt and the timing belt and tensioner/bracket, always making sure not to move either the Camshaft or Crankshaft while working. With special tools C-4687 and C-4687-1, hold the camshaft sprocket and remove the bolt before taking off the sprocket. Following that, remove the rear timing belt cover and carefully pry out the camshaft seal using the correct tool, so as to avoid damaging either the surface of the seal or the cylinder head. Check that the seal lip on the shaft is clean and without any varnish or scratches and sand it down with 400 grit paper if dirty. Start by placing the camshaft seal level with the cylinder head while following Special Tool MD998306 and then reinstall the rear timing belt cover. Securely install the camshaft sprocket on the camshaft by hand with Special Tools C-4687 and modified C-4687-1 tightening the bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Next, set the timing belt and tensioner/bracket assembly, the front timing belt cover and hook up the negative battery cable.
