First, put the front road wheels ahead, then move the steering column half a turn to the right and fix the lock cylinder. Remove the negative battery connection line to help the reserve capacitor feedback discharge for one minute prior to removing the module. To get to the Clock Spring wiring, remove the
Steering Wheel, both steering column shrouds and the switch module. Remove the 7-way connector that links the Clock Spring to the wiring for the instrument panel in the base of the Clock Spring. Lift the top latch tab a little to help the Clock Spring clear the lock housing, as it can't be fixed and must thus be swapped out if faulty. Turn the rotor half way to the left, insert a paper clip wire through the hole at the 10 O'clock position and bend it so the rotor doesn't move. During installation, make sure the steering wheel is turned right by half-turn, the column is locked securely and the turn signal is in the middle. If you decide to keep the Clock Spring, get rid of the locking wire, spin the rotor 180 degrees to the right and fit it on the steering shaft, pressing it firmly in place. When installing a new Clock Spring, aim the front wheels straight ahead, remove the grenade pin and use 180 degrees to rotate the rotor one half turn clockwise. Route wires properly, attach both ends of the connector and insert and lock the tabs when joining the Clock Spring to the harness. Secure the multi-function switch, cover the steering column and the steering wheel, always matching the flats on the hub to the Clock Spring as you pull the horn,
Air Bag and speed control leads through the big part of the cover without squeezing them. Move the speed control wires beneath and behind the air bag module mounting tabs, join the horn and air bag lead wires to the air bag module, fit it and tighten the three bolts to between 12 and 14 Nm (105 to 125 in. lbs.) torque. Next, hook up the power supply wires to the speed control and then put the switches in place, connecting each to its place using screws tightened to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) torque. Do not attach the negative cable from the battery until the air bag system has been looked at and tested.
