Before starting, disconnect the
Battery Cable and drain the cooling system. Then, take out the right and left cylinder head covers and then remove the radiator fan shroud. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft damper with the TDC mark on the timing chain cover and make certain the camshaft sprocket marks are at 12 o'clock for the exhaust stroke on No. 1 cylinder. Uncover the chain guide fasteners by removing the
Power Steering Pump and both access plugs on each cylinder head. You need to open the oil housing before you can take off the right tensioner arm fastener, then remove the crankshaft damper and timing chain cover. Tighten and secure the chain tensioner, making sure the
Oil Pan opening is covered so the plate behind the left secondary chain tensioner can't get in. Next, remove the secondary chain tensioners and the bolt holding the sensor and pull out the sensor, ensuring you don't harm the camshaft target wheel. Refrain from turning the camshaft or crankshaft by force to be sure they do not suffer any harm. Unbolt the left and right camshaft sprockets and when holding the left camshaft steel tube with Camshaft Holder 8428A, turn left the camshaft 15 degrees clockwise and take out the left camshaft sprocket. Perform the same action on the right camshaft, turning it counterclockwise about 45 degrees until it is neutral. Once you've taken out the idler sprocket assembly bolt, push the idler sprocket and crank sprocket forward to release both chains. After that, take out the pivoting tensioner arms, chain guides and primary chain tensioner.
