How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Shifter on Dodge Ram 1500?

If you need to service or repair the shifter, begin with trim stick C-4755 or any other equivalent tool to take off the console bezel trim ring. Then, remove the rubber insert and also take out the fasteners that are at the front part of the console bezel. Again, using trim stick C-4755 or another similar tool, take out the console bezel. After that, pull out the rubber liners from the center tray and cup holders on the console panel's Prndl side and take out the fasteners. Above the firewall, you can find the power outlet harness and the shifter harness. Disconnect these two harnesses from their connectors. Makes sure the shifter is in park, remove the fasteners and move the shifter assembly to expose the cable end. Take the shift cable retainer off the bracket, pull the shifter cable end from the shifter lever and then remove the entire shifter assembly.

How to Remove an Automatic Transmission Shifter on Dodge Ram 1500?

Remove the kneeblocker (2) and the steering column opening reinforcement (1) before touching the shifter. After that, take out the upper and lower shroud arches (1&2). Back off the bolts that secure the column and drop it down enough to allow the gear shift lever to be removed. Detach the overdrive switch harness from the harness (2) if you have one, then pull the shift cable from the shift lever as well. Remove the three screws from the gear shift lever mount and the inhibit link blocker pin before you pull the lever to the left toward the steering wheel and down.
