  Before letting go of the auxiliary cigarette lighter, unplug and disconnect the battery negative wire. Pull the lighter knob and lighting element out of the cigarette lighter receptacle base or just remove the plastic protective cap in the receptacle base. Measure the inside of the very bottom of the receptacle to locate the 4 rectangular retaining bosses that fasten it to the instrument panel lower bezel. Hold the tips of the external snap ring pliers against the retaining bosses, squeeze them closed to lock the bosses and then while squeezing the pliers, gently pull the receptacle base out until it's loose. First, remove the instrument panel wire harness from the main box and take out the mount from the instrument panel accessory switch. Afterward, insert the mount into the accessory switch and fasten the wire harness connector back on. Put the splines on the outside of the receptacle base connector in the matching grooves on the mount, then press until the retaining bosses click into place. Install the cigarette lighter knob and element or the protective cap and then reattach the left side of your battery.

  The main thing to do before servicing the auxiliary cigarette lighter is to disconnect and separate the battery negative cable. To use the cigar lighter or cigarette lighter on the panel, either pull out the knob and element from the receptacle base or unsnap the cap on the cigarette lighter receptacle base. Notice the position of the rectangular retainers on the inside of the receptacle base that fix it to the lower instrument panel. Put the pliers' tips over the bosses, squeeze them and pull the base out from the mount while gently rocking. Take out the instrument panel wire harness from the base where it's plugged in. Take the lighter mount off the accessory switch plate in the instrument panel. Attach the mount to its place in the accessory switch plate and put the wire harness connector back into the receptacle base. Put the splines on the receptacle base connector into the receivers in the mount, then hold until the retaining bosses are flush with the surface. Afterward, place the bigger end of the lighter knob onto its base and attach the battery negative terminal.
