Make sure to first clean the exposed end of the pitman shaft and housing with a wire brush. Remove the adjuster nut, then using a 12 point socket, turn the stub shaft all the way back and forth, all the way to each end and count how many rotations you do. Twist the stub shaft halfway through the full number of turns to its center position. Then, remove the bolts near the engine's side cover, lift off the side cover, gasket and pitman shaft as a unit and align the pitman shaft in the center to avoid issues with the housing. Lift the pitman shaft off the side cover, then scratch out the dust seal ring from the housing using a seal pick so as not to damage the bore. With snap ring tools, remove the retaining ring and then pick out the washer along with the oil seal. Take out the pitman shaft bearing from the housing by using a falling-out tool and a bearing driver. When installing, put the pitman shaft bearing into the housing using a bearing driver and handle and then cover the oil seal and washer with the special grease you get together with the new seal. Using the right tools, set the oil seal, back up washer and retainer with snap ring pliers. Apply the special grease to the dust seal and then attach it with a driver and handle. Affix the pitman shaft to the side cover, screwing it in all the way and only secure the preload adjuster screw after doing the Over-Center Rotation Torque check. Stick the gasket on the side cover, circle the tabs and fit the pitman shaft and side cover onto the housing. At the end, insert the side cover bolts and make sure both pairs are torqued to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.). Then, adjust the over-center rotation setting.
