Dodge Ram 3500 Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Dimmer Switch on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
Before starting the installation, take out the negative clamp on the battery to stop the Air Bag from deploying. Take the multi-function switch, set its pins into the multi-function switch housing from the left and push the switch into place. Screw in two screws that secure the switch to the mounting housing at 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.), then attach the wire harness connector to the back of the switch housing. Cover the lower shroud over the steering column and put in and tighten a center screw from below to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Roll the upper part over the lower part, making sure the automatve transmission's gap hider is engaged, next snap them into each other and apply pressure by hand to secure them. Secure the upper shroud to the lower shroud by screwing in two outboard screws to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). After fitting the knob into the tilt adjuster actuator, tighten it to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Index the rubber boot between the two faloons on the armature attachment by fitting it over the rotor's yellow engagement dowel as you reinstall the Steering Wheel. Put the steering wheel in place, attach the steering wheel wire harness to the upper Clock Spring connector receptacles, correcting its routing and add the driver air bag to the steering wheel. Then, connect the negative cable of the battery again.
  • Q: How to Service a Dimmer Switch on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
Before fixing the turn signal switch, make sure the battery's negative cable is first isolated and turned off. If you have it, remove the lever by turning the tilt steering column adjuster on the left side of the column below the multi-function switch stalk counterclockwise. Take off the steering column shroud in addition to both the upper and lower shrouds resting below it. Reach the back of the multi-function switch by retracting the upper fixed column shroud, then take out the tamper proof mounting screws using a Snap On tamper proof Torx bit TTXR2OB2 or something similar. Gently remove the multi-function switch from the steering column, pull the screw away and disconnect the instrument panel wire harness from the multi-function switch connector receptacle. Get rid of the instrument panel multi-function switch located on the steering column. At installation, place the switch onto the steering column and attach the instrument panel wire harness connector to the switch's receptacle. Secure each screw in the connector to receptacle - the instrument panel wire harness connector to the multi-function switch connector and the two multi-function switch screws to the steering column - to a torque ratio of 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Install the lower fixed column shroud, adding the upper and lower shrouds to the end of the steering column. If needed, put together the tilt steering column lever on the left side of the steering column, by screwing in place and connect the negative Battery Cable last.
