If a vehicle with air-bags needs
Steering Wheel, steering column, driver
Air Bag, passenger air bag, seat belt tensioner or instrument panel service, disable the supplemental restraint system by isolating the vehicle's battery negative cable for two minutes. The air bag Control Module includes the sensor that deploys the supplemental restraints which must not be struck or dropped; so, if it falls, it should be replaced. Start by disconnecting the negative side of the battery and wait for two minutes. Pull the driver's seat forward to the front until it stops, then use a Philips screwdriver to take out the two screws on the front seat cover and slide it up to remove it. After that, take off the control module bracket by removing the two holding screws. The air bag Control Module is on the driver's side seat riser in the right corner. Unsnap the plastic case and then remove the three screws attaching the Acm to the bracket. Pull the Acm panel up to reach the wiring, squeeze the release and pull apart the wiring plugin from the vehicle. Pull out the Acm off the seat riser. First, hook the vehicle wire harness connector onto the Acm. Next, fit the Acm cover base plate onto the mounting bracket, then position the Acm over the base plate, in the same way and make sure the orientation arrow points forward as you fit it into the holes. Screw all three of the screws to hold the Acm in place; make sure the ground eyelet terminal is below the left rear mounting tab screw and tighten them to 12 N.m (105 in. lbs.). Place the Acm cover onto the Acm, press it down and let it attach securely. Put the control module bracket back in place, use two screws to secure it firmly tightened to 2 N.m (18 in. lbs.) and slide the cover panel into place, securing it on both ends with two screws also at 2 N.m (18 in. lbs.). Back the driver side front seat up to its driving place, but not the battery negative cable. This is because it's necessary to test the supplemental restraint system after servicing any part. Any time the Acm is replaced, you should initialize and program the correct standard and optional air bag system components using a Drbiii(R) scan tool.
