Bolts on the negative
Battery Cable and then remove the cylinder once it is removed. Lift the vehicle up on a hoist and remove the
Oil Pan which includes the oil pump pickup tube. Take out the ridge reamer and clean the top of the cylinder bores until they're smooth, but always make sure the top of the pistons are covered during this step. You should remove the pistons and connecting rods from the block by rotating the
Crankshaft so that the connecting rods are centered in the bores, maintaining care so as not to scratch or nick the crankshaft journals. As soon as the worn particles are removed, place a bearing cap over the right rod and mark the pistons according to their respective cylinder numbers. When removing the piston pin, put the connecting rods in a soft jawed vice, remove both of the snap rings fixing the pin and push the pin out of position. When taking out the piston rings, place the ID marks on the top and second rings so they are toward the piston crown and remove first the top and second piston rings with a suitable expander, then the upper rail and lower rail of the lower oil ring and finally the oil expander from the piston. Lastly, wipe the carbon off the pistons' crowns, skirts and ring area, so all four holes in the oil control ring are opened.
