    Service both the upper and lower timing chain guides in sets of two. The first step should be to disconnect the negative Battery Cable. You need to remove the cylinder head covers on the left and right and then the timing chain cover after that. Once the chain is back in place, take out the Timing Chain Tensioner (3). Take out the lower bolt from the right side of the camshaft drive gear, then turn the engine back to Top Dead Center and examine the marks on the balance shaft, camshaft gear and crankshaft gear. Take out the last two right camshaft drive gear retaining bolts and cut the right camshaft drive gear chain from the camshaft, then remove the gear from the engine. Make sure the chain is fastened so it has some slack at each timing chain guide and stays on the crankshaft gear. Eliminate a short shaft from the tubing, 25 mm (1 inch) in length, so that the inner diameter of the shaft is bigger than the guide pin's outer diameter. Set the tube over the guide pin in the timing chain and push a bolt through the pin in the cylinder head on the right. Then tighten the bolt until you take out the guide pin. Unfasten the bolt of the upper timing chain and pull the left cylinder's upper timing chain guide out as well. After that, take out the bolt for the right upper timing chain and the upper timing chain guide in the right cylinder head.

Unbolt the chain guide for both upper timing chains from the left and right cylinder heads, then pull the guides out from the heads and remove the bolts.
