The Dodje Viper Camshaft is an important part that has been known to make a lot of change in the performance and durability of the Dodge Viper models. Playing a critical role in controlling the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves, camshaft guarantees excellent burning of the fuels in the engine cylinders for the premier power production. Manufactured using high quality steel or cast iron, the Camshaft comes in Over Head Valve (OHV), Single Over Head Cam (SOHC) and Double Over Head Cam (DOHC) and is suitable for a variety of Viper models. This kind of flexibility makes it possible to fine tune the Viper to various driving situations, fine tuning the RPM parameters, and general performance. Camshaft synchronisation with crankshaft deals with proper degree of opening and closing of valves, and influences the performance and safety of the vehicle. As for the features, customers can fine-tune the Camshaft according to the particular parameters, namely duration, lift, and the lobe separation angle. It has been found that this adaptability enhances the power of the Viper and also is the major factor behind the models reliability on roads. In the field of automobiles, especially the indomitable American auto industry, the Camshaft is considered a stark engineering marvel and also a component that propels the Dodge Viper to what can be described as an epitome of all American sports cars.

Dodge Viper Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Camshaft on Dodge Viper?
    A:
Before installing the camshaft, enhance the surfaces of the lobes and bearing journals with clean engine oil. Make sure to slide the camshaft into the engine block correctly, so the cam lobes don't harm the bearing surfaces. Secure the camshaft thrust plate in position and tighten the retaining screws to 12 Nm (106 in. lbs.) according to the suggested order. If the end play on the camshaft detected by a dial indicator is outside 0.0127 - 0.381 mm (0.005 - 0.015 in.) or exceeds 0.381 mm (0.015 in.), replace the thrust plate. Place the timing marks and dowel pin where they should be, using a straight edge to guide this and then bolt the Timing Chain and camshaft sprocket in place with the block of wood set on top of the engine to avoid movement. Put the camshaft phaser/sprocket assembly retaining bolt in and tighten it to 160 Nm (118 ft. lbs.). Join the camshaft phaser driveshaft and turn it in the opposite, roughly counterclockwise direction, until you check that it is aligned with the 12 O'clock Sidedirection. After that, add the camshaft drive plate/cover and seven outer bolts, tightening them with the block to 12 Nm (or 106 in. lbs.), following the correct sequence. Place and tighten the center retaining bolt for the camshaft drive plate/cover so that it shows 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.). Replacing all tappets while working on the camshaft will keep the engine from being damaged. Now, mount the hydraulic tappets, the timing chain case cover, the oil pump pick-up tube with its new O-rings tightened to 28 Nm (248 in. lbs.), the Oil Pan gasket and oil pan and the finished placement is your cylinder heads.
