Jeep Cherokee Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Dimmer Switch on Jeep Cherokee?
    A:
You should first disconnect and insulate your battery's negative cable when working on the turn signal switch. Take the knee blocker out of the middle of the instrument panel. The following step is to take off the three screws that hold the lower steering column shroud to the upper shroud. Make sure the steering column is raised if yours is not tiltable, otherwise move it all the way down. Take the upper and lower shrouds off the steering column. After that, take out the two screws holding the water shield and bracket to the steering column's top and the third screw under the multi-function switch control stalk. Pull back the lower tab on the water shield bracket slowly to give enough room for the screw under the control stalk. Turn the multi-function switch off the steering column to the left to remove the water shield and bracket which allows you to get to the two wire harness connectors. Remove the two instrument panel wire harness connectors from the multi-function switch receptacles and take out the multi-function switch and water shield jointly. Position the water shield and switch near their mounts on the steering column after you switch on the switch. Make sure both harness connectors are reconnected and pop the multi-function switch into its mounts on the left side of the steering column. Place the lower tab of the water shield bracket on the boss under the control stalk, fix it in position and tighten the screw below the stalk to 1.1 Nm (10 in. lbs.). Secure the multi-function switch water shield and its bracket to the steering column at the top with two screws tightened to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Attach both shrouds at their lower part onto the steering column and tighten the three mounting screws to 2 Nm until secure. If required, tighten the upper mounting nuts on the non-tilt steering column to the dash panel steering column support bracket studs to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Set the knee blocker in front of the instrument panel and get the negative cable of the battery back together.
