Before removing the ignition lock cylinder, put the key in the cylinder and disconnect the negative
Battery Cable at the battery. If it's an automatic car, put the shifter in PARK and rotate the key to turn it on. You'll find a release tang near the bottom of the key cylinder; insert a small screwdriver or pin punch into the bottom of the
Steering Column Cover's hole and, while holding the pin punch, pull the ignition lock cylinder out of the steering column. To install, again, make sure the shifter is in PARK if you have an automatic car, then put the key into the steering column like it is in the ON position and push it in until it locks. Check that the switch operates as expected; if you have an automatic, lock the transmission in PARK after key removal and if it's challenging to rotate the key, adjust or check the switch connector. Your key should not be removable in a manual transmission until the release lever is released; if you can remove it, your release lever mechanism might not work and should be changed as it could be dangerous. Afterward, attach the negative cable back to the battery and observe if the switch works properly.
