- Q: How to Replace a Cigarette Lighter Outlet on Jeep Grand Cherokee?A:First, connect the negative cable to the battery positive post to disable and disconnect it. Open the cigarette lighter receptacle base by pulling the cigarette lighter knob and element out or by opening the power outlet door in the center of the lower bezel. Review the inside of the cigarette lighter or power outlet receptacle base to learn where the small rectangular retaining bosses are located which secure the receptacle base to the panel center bezel. To loosen the base, activate the tips on the pliers with the retaining bosses, then squeeze and rock the pliers to pull out the base. Take the cigarette lighter or power outlet mount out of the instrument panel center lower bezel. Align the edges of the splines on the receptacle base connector with the grooves in the mount when putting the plug into the instrument panel center lower bezel for installation. Make sure the retaining bosses are pressed completely into the slots. After cleaning, tighten on the knob/element or cap on the lighter or close the power outlet door. After that, set the center lower bezel onto the panel and attach the battery's largest negative cable.
- Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Power Outlet on Jeep Wrangler?A:Before working with the cigarette lighter, cut off and remove the negative cable from your battery. Lift the knob and take out the small internal element in the cigarette lighter receptacle or simply remove the plastic cap from the cigarette lighter receptacle. The retaining bosses that hold the receptacle in place are found at different positions on the inside of the receptacle base. Snap ring pliers allow you to hook onto the retaining bosses and squeeze them which will loosen the bosses and let you gently pull the base out of its mount. Remove the receptacle base from the instrument panel so you can take out the connector from the wire harness. Take out the mount from the instrument panel. Attach the wire harness connector to the receptacle base, then re-mount the instrument panel, with the base placing the splines in each of the mount's grooves. Keep pressing down until you can feel the retaining bosses in place. Last, screw in the cigarette lighter knob and element or cap and attach the negative battery cable.
