Start by turning off the supplemental restraint system by removing and isolating the negative
Battery Cable and allow the system capacitor to discharge for two minutes prior to any further work. Drop or strike the occupant restraint controller at your own risk, since it can break the impact sensor; if damage occurs, the part must be changed. If you have to replace both the ORC and OCM, replace the ORC first and the OCM later, because all the faults will then be set together and cannot be removed. Rotate the jute-covered panel away from the ORC mount, fix any straps and make sure the panel returns to its original place after you're finished to avoid DTC or air bag light illumination. Put the ORC on the mount's three studs, so the bottom of the sensor is perfectly level and the arrow is pointing in the right direction. Connect the two instrument panel wire harness connectors to the ORC, making sure the latches are properly closed. Fit the three nuts under each flange into position, tighten them to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.), repair the jute covered panel and insert the center console shifter housing again. Make sure you disconnect the battery negative cable until you verify the supplemental restraint system with technology after service.
