- Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Front Seat Belt on Jeep Grand Cherokee?A:Look over all parts, make sure everything is installed correctly and not damaged, just as with the back seat belt and if you find cut, frayed or torn belts or any buckles, retractors, latch plates or anchors damaged, order replacements using the Daimlerchrysler Mopar Parts Catalog. For easy access to these areas, put the front seat as far forward as it will go. Lift the lower anchor cover out of its spot next to the cushion in the front side shield and take out the screw holding the anchor to the frame underneath. Open the trim cover by pulling up on the lower side of the turning loop cover and out from the upper B-pillar to unsnap and pull it out. Release the screw holding the seat belt turning loop to the height adjuster and remove the loop. Detach the upper trim inside the B-pillar, take off the cover attached to the top of the seat belt area and discard the lower trim near the same pillar. Pull both sides of the front seat belt turning loop from below the steering wheel, drop the lower anchor into the seat belt opening by the B-pillar trim and unfasten the screw holding the retractor under the lower B-pillar. Make sure the retractor shield is in place and working well before you set up the seat belt and retractor assembly in your vehicle. Screw in the retractor and tighten it to 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.). After that, install the seat belt loop through the front seat belt connector and then snap the lower trim back into place. Position the cover into the upper seat belt opening and the upper trim onto the B-pillar on the inside. Connect the seat belt loop to the height adjuster so that the seat belt's webbing is not twisted, add the screw and tighten it to 39 N.m (Or 29 ft. lbs.). Insert the upper tabs of the turning loop trim cover into the slots of the height adjuster, push them firmly together until they snap and place the lower anchor of the seat belt into the mounting hole on the outboard side of the front seat cushion frame, making sure the webbing is not twisted. Then, use the screw to fasten the lower anchor to 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.). After that, set the lower anchor cover onto the front seat cushion, hiding it behind the outboard side shield.
- Q: How to Properly Service and Repair a Front Seat Belt and Retractor on Jeep Grand Cherokee?A:After having any type of service, check the seat belt, buckle, clips, mounts and retractor for irregularities. You should switch out a belt if it is cut, frayed, torn or twisted, tighten loose fasteners, change a belt with a damaged buckle or retractor and change any belt with a damaged latch or anchor plate too. Never try to fix a seat belt component on your own, but always buy the proper new, unused replacement parts listed in the Mopar Parts Catalog to replace them. In order to remove the front seat belt and retractor, first push the front seats all the way back so you can access the front shoulder belt lower seat belt anchor plate, the retractor and the B-pillar with ease. Lift the front shoulder belt turning loop cover and take out the screw that locks the turning loop to the height adjuster before you remove them both. Push up on the lower seat belt anchor plate, loosen and remove the screw holding it to the B-pillar and slide off the trim around the lower B-pillar. First, turn the buckle of the front ignition safety belt loop, put the seat belt anchor plate with lower access hole over the Lower B- pillar trim, remove the blue plastic push-in fastener section on the seat belt retractor and take out the locator tab from the B-pillar. Be sure to have the retractor shield installed and undamaged in the B-pillar before fitting the retractor into the shield. Set the plastic fastener at the top into the B-pillar, push the lower seat belt anchor plate and front seat shoulder belt turning loop from above, into the B-pillar access hole and then re-attach the lower B-pillar trim to the car. Tighten the screw holding the lower seat belt anchor plate to the B-pillar to 37 Nm (27 Ft. lbs.) and then take the screw cover and put it on to close the plate. Set the shoulder belt's turning loop onto the height-adjusting mechanism, put in and secure the screw, turn and tighten it to reach 37 Nm (27 Ft. lbs.), then snap the cover over the front shoulder belt loop to hide the screw that attaches the turning loop to the height adjustment system.
