In Jeep Patriot vehicles, A/C Accumulator plays an important role in an automobile air conditioning system. This is cylindrical in shape and is typically located between the evaporator and the compressor and its function is to filter off moisture, oil and dirt that could be found in the cooling system. This way the A/C Accumulator also avoids future harm to the compressor and makes the A/C to perform to the optimum. This article has not revealed any specific variation in the Jeep Patriot A/C Accumulators but throughout the years, the various models of jeep patriot may have used several styles of A/C Accumulators. The principle remains basically the same across these models, summing up to the goal of ensuring that adequate moisture and debris are drawn out of the Jeep Patriot's air conditioning system in order to extend the life of the system and make it more reliable. Therefore, the A/C Accumulator is quite crucial for the Jeep Patriot and its functioning of the climate control system.

Jeep Patriot A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the A/C Accumulator on Jeep Patriot?
    A:
Before installing a new HVAC accumulator, disconnect the negative Battery Cable, let it cool for about thirty minutes and then recover the remaining refrigerant. Set up the vehicle, then take out the right front tire. Afterward, remove the three pins and screws keeping the front of the right front Wheelhouse splash shield to the body, so that you can access the air conditioner accumulator. Take out the nut that holds the lower A/C suction line to the accumulator outlet tube and break the line apart from that area. After that, take off the bolt and retaining band used to fasten the A/C accumulator to the bracket. Afterward, remove the nut holding the upper A/C suction line to the accumulator inlet tube and separate this line from the tube. You should remove the accumulator mounting bracket from the body if that step is required. After that, throw out the O-ring seals and gaskets and place caps or tape inside of the open refrigerant line fittings and atop the accumulator ports.
  • Q: How Does the A/C Accumulator Prevent System Malfunction and Compressor Damage on Jeep Patriot?
    A:
Adjusting the refrigerant oil when working with the A/C system reduces possible damage to the A/C system and the compressor. A failed A/C compressor must be replaced by changing the accumulator before further damage occurs. When you replace a number of A/C components, use the chart to tell you how much oil needs to be added. If the A/C accumulator is all that is replaced and nothing else, add just 30 milliliters (1.0 fluid ounce) of the recommended oil. Never fail to replace the O-ring gaskets and rubber seals when you work on refrigerant lines, so there isn't a risk of leaks. You should put on the accumulator mounting bracket (10) first and tighten its retaining bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Remove all tape or other stopping devices from the lines and ports of the refrigerant system. Install the clean refrigerant oil onto new rubber O-ring seals and then attach them with the specified R-134a gaskets to the suction line and accumulator fittings. Attach the upper A/C suction line (2) to the accumulator inlet (4) and use your wrench to tighten the retaining nut (3) to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Fit the A/C accumulator (1) to the bracket using the retaining band (6), bolt (5) and tighten the bolt until the torque reads 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.). Screw the lower suction piping from the air conditioner (8) to the outlet of the accumulator tube (9) and place the retaining nut (7) which must be tightened to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Secure the front of the right front wheel house splash shield (3) to body (4) using push-pin retainers (1) and the supplied screws (2). Attach the left front wheel, lower the vehicle and reconnect the cars negative Battery Cable. Do not use the engine while there is a vacuum pump on or while the A/C system is under vacuum, since the compressor may be damaged. Pull out the refrigerant from the system and if you're replacing the air conditioning accumulator, also put in 30 milliliters (1.0 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil. To change multiple components, use the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to find out the correct oil amount and always use recommended refrigerant oil for the vehicle's A/C compressor when charging.
