The Wheel Cylinder on Jeep Patriot cars serves the hydraulic drum brake system by expanding and pushing the brake shoes against the brake drum to enable stopping. Others employ hydraulic action which helps in pushing the pistons in the cylinder and the shoes tight on the drum. Jeep Patriot models use cast iron and aluminum wheel cylinders with the recent models using aluminum to resist rusting. Over the time, the Wheel Cylinder may also develop some leak or may even corrode and all these affect the braking system. Daily inspection is required especially when fitting brake shoes, the new linings shove pistons deeper in the bore and thus may leak. Regarding wheel cylinders, it is possible to rebuild them at times still, it is preferred that it be replaced if it is badly worn. There is therefore need to ensure that the Wheel Cylinder of Jeep Patriot automobiles is not compromised in anyway.

Jeep Patriot Wheel Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Wheel Cylinder on Jeep Patriot?
    A:
Connect a brake pedal holder to the master cylinder to keep the brake pedal pressed a few cm, so the master cylinder stays isolated and braking fluid from its reservoir doesn't leak. After that, set up the vehicle and take off the wheel mounting nuts (3) before removing the whole tire and wheel assembly. Take off the drum brake shoes (6) from the support plate (2). Disconnect the brake tube at the wheel cylinder, then remove both attaching screws and take out the wheel cylinder from its spot on the support plate.
