Jeep Timing Belt ensures the crank and cam shafts are perfectly locked for the delivery of power. Jeep came back to the world after war with a frame that was designed to carry the filthy things in the war. Drivers of Jeeps touch Selec-Terrain, switch snow, sand, or mud, and continue rolling where the pavement is over. Jeep cabins have taken the appearance of glossy digital dashboards, voice recognition, and instant over-the-air updates that come during coffee breaks. Jeep loyalty is successful in trail meetings, online discussions, and that wave that is applied on dusty roads. Hardcore axles, sufficient ground clearance, and intelligent weight distribution allow these rigs to scramble over the rocks rather than go around them. Pride in the community is allotted a practicality with which an ordinary commute becomes a reconnaissance mission of the next camping place. Doors-off, on-access driving in the open air utilizes the senses, allowing the wind, smell, and engine sound to mark the next route. Timing Belt is made of rubber overlaid with fiber cords and gripping sprockets with rounded teeth that will not slip at redline. Timing Belt will coordinate the crank rotation with the movement of valves, and thus the pistons will never cause any beating on the incorrect rhythm. Timing Belt is quieter than the chain drives and reduces the amount of cabin noise and eliminates obnoxious vibration during highway pulls. Timing Belt needs timely replacements before its substance is worn out, as a broken belt can bend pipe valves and empty wallets. Kevlar fibers are impervious to stretch in severe changes in temperature between alpine morn and desert midday. Interchange tensioners and idlers simultaneously, keep the oil seals dry, and the belt will continue to hum a mile.

Jeep Timing Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Installation of a Timing Belt on a Jeep Wrangler?
    A:
Before removing the timing belt, take apart the air cleaner upper cover, housing and its tube, raise the car on a hoist and remove the accessory drive belts. After that, remove the crankshaft vibration damper, plus the belt tensioner and pulley assembly that supports the air conditioner/generator belt. Take out the timing bolt cover fasteners at the lower front and remove both the bolts and the cover, before lowering the vehicle. Managed by starting from the crankshaft, turn the engine to bring the camshaft marks to zero, matching the TDC mark on the oil pump body with that on the crankshaft sprocket before removing the timing belt. Place a 6 mm Allen wrench in the belt tensioner and turn it counterclockwise using a 3/8" or 4 mm Allen wrench in the included hole. When the timing belt is off, take off the negative battery cable and use Special Tools 6793 and C-4685-C2 to get rid of the crankshaft sprocket. Avoid cleaning the timing belt; if it is contaminated, replace it and all sprockets should be cleaned with a proper cleaner. Start by fixing the crankshaft sprocket to its initial height using Special Tool 6792 and then attach the timing belt so its crankshaft sprocket matches the arrow on the oil pump housing and all timing marks are correct. Begin installing the timing belt at the crankshaft and move it onto the water pump sprocket, idler pulley, each camshaft sprocket and tensioner. Counterclockwise adjustment of the exhaust camshaft sprocket helps marks to match, while turning the pulley of the tensioner counterclockwise until the setting notch lines up with the spring, tightening the nut to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Move the crankshaft onward two complete turns, per the manufacturer's instructions, to fit the belt and ensure the timing marks are correct. If the position of the spring tang falls within the acceptable tolerance range, fit the timing belt front covers and bolts, put in the air conditioning/generator belt tensioner and pulley, as well as the crankshaft vibration damper, secure all the accessory drive belts, install the splash shield for the belts and finish with the air cleaner housing, upper cover and clean air tube.
  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Timing Belt on Jeep Liberty?
    A:
After unscrewing the upper cover and the housing, also remove the clean air tube. Lift the vehicle up using a hoist, then take off the accessory drive belts. Also, you have to remove the crankshaft vibration damper and the air conditioner/generator belt tensioner and pulley assembly next. Excessitly remove the bolts securing the timing belt lower front cover and the cover from the bottom. Then, lower the vehicle and remove the bolts and timing belt upper front cover from the top. Before taking off the belt, make sure that the marks around the crankshaft and camshaft in line and that the TDC mark on the oil pump connector lines up with the mark on the crankshaft. With a 6 mm Allen wrench, loosen the belt tensioner and then use a 1/8 inch or 3 mm Allen wrench through the hole at the front, turned counterclockwise to lock it. After you take out the timing belt, disconnect the negative battery cable and use the required Special Tools 6793 and C-4685-C2 to uninstall the crankshaft sprocket. If the timing belt gets dirty, discard it instead of cleaning it. Use a proper solvent to clean every sprocket. When installing, first use Special Tool 6792 to ensure the crankshaft sprocket is at its factory depth, then install the crankshaft sprocket and timing belt and finally check that the crankshaft and top and bottom cams have their marks properly aligned. Screw in the timing belt with your correct tool, starting from the crankshaft and moving around the water pump sprocket, idler pulley, camshaft sprockets and tensioner. To line up the marks on the sprockets, turn the exhaust camshaft sprocket counterclockwise. Adjust the belt tensioner by rotating the top plate counterclockwise and make certain that the spring tang is in the setting notch as you torque the tensioner lock nut to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Turn the crankshaft clockwise two full times so that the belt is seated and check that the timing marks are lined up and that the spring tang doesn't go over the tolerance line. If the tensioning does not hold, go through the process again. At the end, put back the timing belt front covers and fasteners, the belt tensioner and pulley for the air conditioning/generator belt, the muffler for the crankshaft vibration damper, all accessory drive belts, the splash shield for the drive belt and the air cleaner housing, upper cover and clean air tube.
