After putting on the new compressor clutch, follow the same process about twenty times by turning it ON for five seconds and then OFF for five seconds. How to Service the A/C Clutch on Jeep Wrangler?

The first step to servicing a compressor clutch is to remove and separate the battery negative cable. Pullup against the fully compressed auxiliary spring to remove the bolt connecting the clutch to the compressor shaft with a band-type oil filter wrench. Hit the clutch plate with a plastic mallet to free it from the splines on the compressor shaft, then take both the clutch plate and the shim(s) out. No prying should take place between the clutch plate assembly and the pulley as it might result in damage. After that, remove the snap ring attaching the clutch pulley to the compressor front housing with special snap ring pliers, then pull the pulley assembly away. With a screwdriver, take out the screw and retainer from the lead wire harness on the compressor front housing. After that, remove the external snap ring that holds the coil to the front housing with your pliers and gently pull the coil assembly out. For installation, fit the dowel pin located on the back of the clutch field coil into the hole in the front of the compressor housing and then use your finger to put the field coil in place. Join the clutch coil lead wire to its retaining clip and secure it with a retaining screw. Always place the end of the snap ring that shows the bevel away from you and ensure that the two eyelets are to the right or left of the pin on the clutch compressor. Press on the snap ring so it sits perfectly in the groove and keep the clutch from failing. Run a block of wood over the friction surface on the pulley, using it to gently tap the assembly into the compressor for a perfect fit without damage. Put the pulley assembly retaining snap ring (the bevel side facing outward) into place using snap ring pliers, to ensure it's seated correctly. Where you keep the old clutch plate and pulley assembly, use the same shim(s); if not, use your new shim stack to match the height of the old ones on the shaft against the shoulder. Fit the clutch plate assembly on the shaft, then check the air gap with gauges in more than one spot to be sure it falls between the recommended range of 0.35 to 0.65 millimeters (0.014 to 0.026 inches). If required, move the shims to reach the right air gap. Then, put in the compressor shaft bolt and tighten it to 13 Nm (115 in. lbs.). For twenty cycles (five seconds ON, followed by five seconds OFF), run the compressor clutch in Recirculation Mode with the A/C button on, blower motor at maximum and car speed set between 1500 and 2000 rpm to seat the compression surfaces and reinforce the torque produced by the clutch.
