First, take out the negative cable from the battery and make sure to drain the coolant while keeping the reusable coolant in a clean container by your side. If the car has air conditioning (A/C), first uninstall the
Radiator or radiator and condenser, then scribe a line from a reference point just beside the rotor lip to a notch above the clamp and continue that line over to the cylinder block. Notice where the rotor and the distributor housing are located near the rest of the engine before you take the distributor and ignition wires out. Once the camshaft is out, remove the camshaft gear, timing belt, crankshaft pulley, crankshaft, rocker pedal,
Rocker Arm plates, valve actuator, girdle stabilizer, engine mount support pedestal, lifter pedestal support and the fuel filter. Check the cam lobes, bearing journals, bearings and distributor drive gear for wear and make sure the oil pressure relief holes in the rear cam journal are clean if the surface of the camshaft indicates rubbing. Apply Mopar Engine Oil Supplement or a comparable product, to the camshaft before you carefully fit it to prevent damaging the bearings. Release the tensioner lever, pull the block toward the switch to push the spring and lock it. Place the
Timing Chain, crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket behind the timing marks and then tighten the retaining bolt and washer on the camshaft to a torque of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). Let loose the tension on the timing chain, fit the timing cover with a new seal and attach the rocker arm, rod, bridge, valve tappet, hydraulic valve, engine head cover and vibration damper. Setup the oil pump gear, reinstall both the distributor and ignition wires, attach the radiator or radiator and condenser if needed, top up the cooling system and then hook the negative cable to the battery.
