2000 Dodge Caravan Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Brake Master Cylinder on 2000 Dodge Caravan?
A: Technicians follow specific steps to take out and fit the brake master cylinder to guarantee it works safely. Before anything else, make sure you have the right kind of brake master cylinder, depending on whether the car has traction control or four-wheel brakes, because traction control and 4WDB systems use different brake master cylinders. Brake the vehicle with the brake pedal a few times with the engine off so it does not draw air into the booster. Spray a solvent like Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner all over the filler neck, brake fluid reservoir and brake master cylinder and rub to remove any dirt. Pull out the filler tube, cap it, disconnect the brake fluid sensor's wire and cut off both primary and secondary brake lines, covering the open parts with caps. Clean the area at the juncture of the brake master cylinder and the vacuum booster, then take out the two pinch nuts to remove the brake master cylinder. Whenever you take out the vacuum seal from the brake master cylinder, put another in its place right away. Only clamp the cylinder in a vise where the mounting flange meets the plastic body and connect the right bleeding tubes for your type of brake master cylinder. Add DOT 3 brake fluid into the reservoir, squeeze the push rod a few times to release the air and then block off the outlet ports and install the cap. First, make sure the vacuum seal is in its correct place, next line up and tighten the push rods and then secure the nuts to 25 Nm (225 inch lbs.). Adjoin the primary and secondary brake pipes to ensure they do not hit other mechanisms and are moved so there is some slack in longer parts, tighten them to 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). After that, reattach the wiring harness to the brake fluid level sensor and put the filler tube into the reservoir.
