2000 Dodge Dakota Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Diagnose or Service the Air Bag Control Module on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: The impact sensor needed for air bag deployment is in the air bag Control Module, so you have to isolate the battery negative cable, let the capacitor discharge for two minutes and then go ahead with any servicing or diagnostics. There should be no striking or kicking toward the air bag Control Module, as it can harm the impact sensor or compromise its calibration; if the module is inadvertently dropped, it becomes unusable and must be changed. First, take out the middle support from the instrument panel and then take off the battery negative cable. Then, remove the screw that holds the ground eyelet for the instrument panel wire harness to the left side of the mount on the floor panel transmission tunnel and next, release the connector from the air bag Control Module by sliding the red lock, pushing down on the tab and then pulling the connector steadily away. Take out the three screws holding the air bag Control Module to the mount and lift the module out. Be sure the arrow on the label is toward the front as you set up the module, then twist in all the screws as outlined. Once the instrument panel wire harness connector is connected to the module and the latch and CPA lock are engaged, do not turn the negative battery cable on.
