2000 Dodge Dakota Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace an Oxygen Sensor on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: While swapping an oxygen sensor, be sure there is no grease near the connector and refrain from soldering the connections in the sensor harness, since the harness delivers comparative oxygen from outside the exhaust system. The upstream O2S sensor's position is along the exhaust downpipe and the downstream sensor is right ahead in the catalytic converter. Wait for the engine to cool down before starting work, because the manifold, pipes and converter get very hot. Raise the vehicle, disconnect the wire connector from the O2S sensor and be careful not to pull on the sensor's wire. Take out the oxygen sensor using a proper removal and installation tool. Because the threads of the new sensor are coated with anti-seize compound at the factory, avoid adding any more on your own. Attach the O2S sensor and tighten it to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), afterward attach the O2S sensor wire connector and bring the vehicle down.
