2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lash Adjuster and Lifter on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: The first step to servicing or repairing the lifter and lash adjuster is to remove the rocker assembly and push rods, so you remember where they go back. Then, disconnect the intake manifold, then the retainer and two yokes. Put the Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer Tool C-4129-a through the opening in the cylinder head and press it against the tappet head, move it down and turn to pull the tappet out of the bore and look for further tappets if the whole set needs to be removed. Should any tappet or cylinder bore be scored, scuffed or have sticking problems, go one size larger on the ream and change the tappet to the matching oversize type. When putting things back in place, insert the tappets and place the push rods using oil on all surfaces and ensure that the oil feed hole in each tappet body points upwards. Attach the aligning yokes so the Arrow points toward the camshaft, place the yoke retainer, tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) and put back the intake manifold. Afterward, slot the push rods and rocker arm into place and set the cylinder head cover, starting the engine until it heats up to the usual operating temperature. Care is needed not to operate the engine at a high speed above fast idle, as this could harm the valves, as the hydraulic tappets should be quiet and full of oil.
