2000 Dodge Stratus Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service a timing cover on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: Before you service the timing cover, unhook the negative battery cable from the auxiliary jumper terminal and disconnect all the accessory drive belts. Lift the car with a hoist and pull out the right inner splash shield. After that, remove the crankshaft damper. Before you take the right engine mount out, lower the vehicle and slide the jack under the engine. After that, separate the generator and its bracket, pull off the right engine mount bracket and then take the front timing belt cover out of the engine. First, join the front timing cover and secure it with bolts that are tightened to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), then add the engine mount bracket and right engine mount and remove the jack when the job is done. Attach the generator bracket, fasten its bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.), then put in the generator, crankshaft damper and all accessory drive belts. After that, raise the vehicle up once more to put in the correct inner splash shield and reconnect the negative cable. First, eliminate the front timing belt cover, replace the timing belt and withdraw the timing belt tensioner. Eliminating the psoolle bolt on the camshaft sprocket should be done using Special Tool C-4687 and modified Adapter C-4687-1 to hold it steady. After that, remove the bolts holding on the rear timing cover and lift away the cover.
