2000 Jeep Wrangler Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Brake Pads on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before you start any brake pad services, first lift the vehicle, then take off the wheel and tire unit. Then, press one end of the outboard shoe inward to release the shoe lug, switch the shoe upward, push the opposite direction to release that lug and then rotate the shoe upward and out of the caliper. For the first brake, hold the end tips and tilt outward to unclip the springs and then remove the shoe. If you want to reuse the original brake shoes, remember to keep them in sets for left and right because they are not the same. Secure the caliper close by to a suspension component with wire so it is not being held by the brake hose, wipe it using shop rags or towels and do not use compressed air to prevent the dust boot from coming loose. For installing the brakes, insert the inboard shoe into the caliper, making sure it's fully seated in the piston, then start the outboard shoe at one end of the caliper and rotate it down into position. Attach the caliper, then put in the wheel and tire assembly, remove the support and let the vehicle down. Later on, use the brake pedal to seat the caliper pistons and squeeze the brake shoes and check if the brake fluid needs to be refilled.
