2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Light Switch on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first step to fix or replace the brake lamp switch is to take off and move the air cleaner cover. First, unplug the battery negative cable from its terminal and then remove the silencer pad that's beneath the knee blocker and fold down to take out the knee blocker. Counterclockwise rotation of the brake lamp switch about 30 degrees followed by pulling outward will disconnect it; then remove the old switch. After purchasing, do not use the old switch because you can only set it once upon first installation. Both the index tab and the slot in the brake lamp switch mount should line up, then firmly hold the mount as you turn the release knob to lock it. After freeing the brake pedal, change the lever on the back of the switch from its diagonal position to stand completely upright. Put back the knee blocker and silencer pad, attach the battery negative terminal and socket the air cleaner cover. Make sure the tail lamp functions properly, stays off when the brakes are released and red lights come on when the brake pedal is pressed and inspect the brakes by driving the vehicle on the road to test the Antilock Brake System as well.
