2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Bleed a Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: If you want to bleed the brake master cylinder, clamp it into a vise before continuing. Put four Brake Master Cylinder Bleed Tubes, Special Tool 8358-1, into the four ports of the brake master cylinder and attach the tubes going to the rear brakes to the proportioning valves. Place the other two ends of the tubes into the brake master cylinder reservoir, making sure the outlets are in the brake fluid when everything is filled. Pour Mopar brake fluid that matches DOT 3 specifications into the section for brake fluid. Press the wooden dowel into the pump to slowly push the brake pistons in and release it to let them go out. Roll the wheels until all the air is squeezed out of the tubes and brake master cylinder bore. After that, detach the bleed tubes and block the outlet holes, set the reservoir's fill cap in place and remove the brake master cylinder from the vice. If you only replace the brake master cylinder, you do not need to bleed the whole system unless the lines contain air or it has been open to air for a long time; simply bleed and fill only the brake master cylinder.
