2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder on a Right-Hand Drive on 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before working on the master cylinder, pump the brake pedal from 4 to 5 times with the engine turned off to remove the vacuum from the booster. Pull up the air cleaner housing after you have unclipped and moved aside the cover of your air cleaner. Separate the negative battery cable from the battery and store it separately and then detach the brake booster vacuum supply hose and put it aside. Take the wiring harness away from the brake level switch, clean it off using brake parts cleaner and clean the surface around the master cylinder's attachment to the power brake booster. Take off the nuts fixing the master cylinder to the booster and move the master cylinder out straight. Before mounting the booster, bleed its master cylinder and make sure the booster cleaner is wiped from its face before installing the booster. Place the master cylinder over the booster studs, making sure the push rod is lined up with that of the master cylinder and slowly push it so it touches the booster face. Attach the two mounting nuts moreover tighten them to 18 Nm (160 in. lbs.), after nonwithstanding fit the brake tubes into the master cylinder and fasten them to 17 Nm (145 in. lbs.). Attach the wiring of the brake fluid level switch, add the brake booster vacuum supply hose and mount the air cleaner and its cover again. Elevate the master cylinder to its proper amount and only use the car if pushing the brake pedal firmly; bleed or check if the fluid is leaking if this isn't the case. The last step is to take the car on the road to test the brakes.
