2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser EGR Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an EGR Valve on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: For EGR valve service, change the entire valve and transducer together if the EGR is not working, as they share a calibration. First, take out the air cleaner lid, unhook the inlet air temperature sensor and makeup air hose and lastly remove the negative battery cable. Open the bolts on the intake manifold and take out the bolts from the EGR tube at the EGR valve. Disconnect the EGR transducer bracket and take it off and afterwards disconnect the hose attached to the EGR transducer solenoid. After disconnecting the electrical connector, first remove the two bolts from the EGR valve to the cylinder head, then take out the EGR valve and transducer. Scrub the gasket surfaces, get rid of old gaskets and clean the EGR passages if you find that's necessary. For installation, put the vacuum supply tube onto the solenoid and connect the electrical connector as well. Attach the EGR transducer to the bracket and snap the bracket shut. Install the EGR valve temporarily, fasten the EGR tube with your fingers according to the arrows and then use a torque wrench to tighten the valve mounting screws to 22 Nm (195 in. lbs.) and the EGR tube fasteners to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.), making sure hoses are moved away from the hot EGR tube and valve and clipped. Next, put on the air cleaner lid, fasten the inlet air temperature sensor and install the makeup air hose.
