2001 Dodge Dakota Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace an Oxygen Sensor on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: Detach any grease from the connectors and steer clear of soldering the sensor's wiring, because a source of oxygen is supplied through the pigtail wiring from outside the system. The upstream sensor is found in the exhaust downpipe and the downstream sensor is placed as the catalytic converter ends near the vehicle's outlet. Allow the engine to cool first, because the exhaust manifold, exhaust pipes and catalytic converter all heat up while the car is running. Raise the vehicle first, then remove the wire connector from the O2S sensor without grabbing it from the wire inside the sensor. Remove the O2S sensor using the proper tool made for this purpose. The threads of newly packed oxygen sensors are already coated with anti-seize compound in the factory, so you shouldn't add extra compound. Secure the O2 sensor in place, fastening it with 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) pressure and connect the O2 sensor wire, before lowering the vehicle.
