2001 Dodge Dakota Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: Unbolt the clip or screw that holds the TPS facing the throttle body, then take out the air duct at the throttle body and then unplug the electrical cable from it. After that, loosen the TPS mounting screws and remove the TPS. The throttle end of the throttle body should fit into the TPS socket, able to turn a little, if not, place the sensor with the shaft attached to the side with the tangs opposite to it. TPS can only be distorted a bit by rotation. Attach the TPS and hold it firmly in place by screwing the retaining screws to 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.). Attach the TPS electrical connector, then use your hand to work the throttle a few times to see if it binds and finish by replacing the air duct to the throttle body.
