2001 Dodge Neon Power Steering Cooler Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Cooler on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Before servicing or repairing the power steering fluid cooler, siphon most of the fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir. Lift the vehicle, remove the clamp from the power steering fluid return hose and take the hose out of the power steering fluid cooler. After that, remove the clamp that holds the power steering cooler hose onto the steel fitting in the power steering outlet port. Access the back two screws holding the cooler to the suspension from above, as they're behind and below the blower. Open the routing clip from the right front of the gear housing, disconnect the cooler tube and remove the cooler from your vehicle. Before installing, slip a hose clamp over the end of the power steering cooler fluid hose and make sure it doesn't get caught on the steel fitting once the hose is installed. Pull the hose (with cooler) through the steering gear fitting, align it with the back of the cooler and the right front routing clip on the power steering gear housing and snap both into place then shut the clip. Attach the power steering hose clamp beyond the bead in the steel fitting. Screw the cooler again to the front suspension crossmember, making sure the torque is 10 Nm (90 inch lbs.). Reach around the power steering fluid cooler and feed the return hose toward the back, then attach and secure it using a clamp to be sure it's installed past the bead. Complete the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation, lower the vehicle and look for leaks at all connections.
