2001 Dodge Neon Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2001 Dodge Neon?
A: Before you do any work on the pump, shut down the engine and inspect the fluid. Use Mopar Power Steering Fluid (MS-9933) and don't let it overfill in the system. After cleaning the filler cap, make sure the dipstick reads FULL when the machine is warm, with a temperature of 21 - 27 °C (70 - 80 °F). Make sure the power steering fluid reservoir is filled to the proper line and let it stand for two minutes. Give the engine a few seconds to run after you switch it on and then turn it off again. Should you need to, inject more fluid and continue the process until there are no more changes after running the engine. Lift up the front of the car, begin the engine and steer gently right and left, just touching the wheel stops. Add power steering fluid only if your vehicle needs it. Ease the car down and make a half turn of the wheel at each end. Turn off the engine, check the fluids and add any required amount. Should the fluid appear to be full of foam, allow the vehicle to sit for some minutes and check again.
