2001 Dodge Ram 2500 A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before removing the condenser, first disconnect and insulate the battery negative cable and then collect the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Disconnect the nut on the stud that holds the block fitting and remove the refrigerant line from the condenser inlet, always putting plugs or tape over the openings on the lines. Then, loosen the fitting on the liquid line connected to the condenser and once more cover all exposed refrigerant lines with plugs or tape. For certain engine models, loosen the screws holding the condenser upper mounting brackets to the upper radiator crossmember, lift the condenser away from the engine and grab the top, lift it to remove the two lower condenser holders from the lower crossmember isolators and then take the condenser out of the vehicle. Add the low condenser mounting points into the isolators in the lower crossmember and tilt up the condensers so that the screw holes match with the hood. After that, screw in each mounting bracket with the 10.5 Nm (95 in. lbs.) torque. Take off the plugs or tape from the refrigerant line fittings at both the liquid line and condenser outlet and then install the liquid line on the condenser outlet. Put the condenser mounting fitting with its new gasket and gasket retainer on the stud on the condenser inlet tightening the mounting nut to 20 Nm (180 in. lbs.). Make sure all air seals on the condenser and radiator are where they should be, attach the battery's negative cable, evacuate the system of refrigerant and charge it up again. If you replace the condenser, add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the right refrigerant oil for your vehicle's compressor to the refrigerant system.
