2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Blend Door Actuator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Blend Door Actuator on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before replacing the blend door actuator, turn off the air bag system by removing the battery negative cable, waiting two minutes for it to discharge and then reconnecting the cable again. With the ignition to the run position and the temperature control in the middle (12 o'clock) position, then turn the ignition off. Eliminate the instrument panel as well as the HVAC grouping from your vehicle. Remove the top wire harness and remove the two screws that are securing the blend door actuator to the housing. Pull the blend door actuator away from the blend door shaft. If a black plastic coupler is attached, pull it off, check for damage and reinstall it if not broken. The actuator should be installed only when the blend door is free to travel all the way in each direction. Line up the actuator with the blend door and turn it to suit the mounting bosses on the HVAC housing. Then, install the actuator and tighten the screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Attach the wire harness the the blend door actuator as before, put back the HVAC enclosure and fix the instrument panel. Be sure to set the Temperature Control Knob at mid position, so the actuator will calibrate itself when the van is started and then attach the battery negative lead back to its fixture.
