2001 Jeep Cherokee Washer Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Rear Washer Pump on 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
A: Before you start to change the rear washer pump/motor, unclip and isolate the negative battery cable, then lift the entire vehicle and place it on supports. Take off the splash shield in the left front fender wheel housing. Take the washer supply hose off the barbed outlet nipple of the rear washer pump/motor to have the wash fluid drain into a container you can refill the machine with later. Detach the headlamp and dash wire harness connector from the receptacle of the washer pump/motor. Take out the inlet barbed nipple on the rear washer pump/motor by gently inserting a trim stick or another appropriate tool into the grommet seal in the reservoir, without damaging the container. Take out the rear washer pump/motor unit and throw away the rubber grommet seal on the front end of the washer pump/motor mounting hole in the reservoir. Place a new rubber grommet seal into the hole where the washer pump/motor mounts in the washer reservoir, line up the washer pump/motor inlet nipple with the reservoir and insert the nipple into the seal so it doesn't damage the reservoir. Attach the headlamp and dash wire harness connector to the washer pump/motor receptacle and then reinsert the other end of the washer supply hose into the barbed nipple of the rear washer unit. Replace the splash shield, then let the car back down, connect the negative battery wire and restock the reservoir with washer fluid.
