2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Condenser on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before getting rid of the condenser, make sure it is disconnected and then take out the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Remove the screws that fix the grille and headlamp mounting module to the upper crossmember and afterward, take off the headlamps from their mounts. Then, unsecure the nuts holding the hood latch and brace to the upper crossmember and mark where you find the upper crossmember before moving it to either the left or right holes. Bolt release and set away the radiator from the upper crossmember and remove the engine air filter inlet duct joined at the headlamp housing. To reach the condenser and its connections, remove both the headlamp mount and the front cover. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condenser and cover all remaining line fittings with plugs or tape until the job is completed. Break the bolts that secure the upper condenser to the engine and lift the condenser slowly from the vehicle. For mounting, fit the condenser into the vehicle and hold it carefully in place while you bolt the upper condenser to it. Lift off all the plugs or tapes at the end of the refrigerant lines on the condenser; link the discharge line to the condenser inlet; and use a 28-Nm (250 in. lbs.) torque wrench to tighten the nut holding everything together. First, open the taped or plugged connections on the condenser outlet and liquid line, join the liquid line to the condenser, then tighten the nut to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). Locate and set the headlamp mounting module, front fascia, engine air filter inlet duct, bolt the radiator to the upper crossmember and attach the nuts for the hood latch and brace to the upper crossmember. Secure the headlamp mounts and attach those screws to the upper crossmember. Don't forget to evacuate and recharge the refrigeration system before connecting the battery back in. If you replace the condenser, fill in the refrigerant system with 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the proper refrigerant oil for the compressor in your vehicle.
