2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an A/C Accumulator in a Refrigerant System on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Start by removing the a/c low pressure switch from the accumulator and after that, disconnect and isolate the battery's negative cable. Take out the refrigerant from the system, disconnect the accumulator line from the evaporator outlet and put plugs or covering tape on all opened connections. After that, disconnect the mounting nut from the suction line on the accumulator and once more cover the opened fittings with plugs or tape. Release the screw holding the band of the accumulator support bracket and remove the accumulator from the bracket. When installing, leave no kinks in the refrigerant tubes and all bends should have a radius that is ten times the diameter of the tube, keeping flexible hose refrigerant lines 80 millimeters (3 inches) far from the exhaust tailpipe. Place the accumulator into the band on the support bracket, matching it with the notch there and tighten the clamp screw to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Lift the tape and plugs off the suction line and accumulator fittings and press the suction line fitting into the accumulator, then tighten the fitting bolt to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). Pull out the tape or plugs from both the accumulator line and the evaporator outlet. Connect the accumulator line to the evaporator and hit the retaining nut with 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) force. Hook the a/c low pressure switch to the accumulator fitting, put back the negative battery cable, empty the refrigerant system from the vehicle and refill it with the correct refrigerant. If you install a new accumulator, add 4 fluid ounces of the right refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system, as indicated by the compressor guide in the vehicle.
